Play Ball! Spring Training is just around the corner…are you ready?

Posted by on April 1, 2008

It’s been called “the great American pastime, ” and despite the controversy over steroids, performance-enhancing drugs and salaries, baseball is still a glorious game!

In fact opening day is almost happening as I write! With that in mind, I thought I would share some resources available to help you get in the mood! So grab your glove, your ball and bat, and your mouse and enjoy the links and photos below!

First up, I want to mention an old post on my previous blog concerning the integration of baseball in the later 1940’s. It has some great information on Jackie Robinson and Pee Wee Reese and came about as a result of a great New York Times article I found about the incident. It also links to the extensive collection held by the Brooklyn Public Library.

The next resource is one that I could spend hours just searching and enjoying some of the pictures, stories and popular culture. The Library of Congress has a great, great collection here that includes baseball cards, stadiums, team information and the potential for a super trivia game with your friends and family who claim to know baseball.

I hope you have found this interesting, I know I sure have. I just wish it would stop trying to rain so I could go outside and play catch!

Have a great day, see you tomorrow!
