Ghosts!
*****
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about World War II, especially with all of the veterans being in their 80′s now. Our time on this earth is exceedingly short and many of them are now passing on. With that in mind, I was looking over the LOC Flickrstream (http://www.flickr.com/photos/library_of_congress/collections/) tonight and noticed the image you see above. For the full-size photo, this is the link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/library_of_congress/2179230850/sizes/o/in/photostream/.
However, the facts are that more than likely, both the bomber and the women war workers we see pictured here are now gone, their stories, their lives now part of the past. Ghosts in a sense, because today’s world has no need of them, of their sacrifices, of their heartaches, of their joys. This always saddens me somewhat, but I know that nothing can alter this, save folks like you or I making an effort to keep the past alive. A great image, show this to your friends, your kids, tell the story, keep the past from slipping away. I’ve included some links below to more information about war workers as well as the B-24 bomber. It’s a fascinating story!
